On April 22, 1950, The Grace Baptist Church was organized. There was seven original charter members. Those members were Jessie and Roy Roop, Austin and Veena Widner, Lena Mae Widner, Will Stuart, and Emma Vaughn. The old Patton store in the Stevens Creek Community was the first meeting place. Jessie Roop was voted in as pastor and was ordained on June 10th, 1950. The church continued to grow and add new members. In November 1950 the congregation moved to the old Isaacs Store building which was a better location. Early in 1951 a lot in the Hawkstowns Community was purchased from Mr. Russell Martin. Ground was broken for a new church building on March 30, 1951. The first service was held in the new building on June 3, 1951 Later that year the church applied for membership in the New River Baptist Association and was accepted. Over the next several years the church continued to grow. In 1958 the note was paid off and a dedication service was held.

This church has always been blessed to have talented members willing to work and seemed to always be in a state of remodeling. The church building, which was built out of cinderblock, which was brick cased. Indoor restrooms were installed, a fellowship hall was built, a central vacuum system installed and the sanctuary was air conditioned as well as remodeling of the Sunday school classrooms. On January 9th 1994 the church was informed the property behind the church building was for sale and voted to purchase this land. After much waiting for all the legal aspects of the purchase to be worked out the property was finally purchased making room for much needed additional parking. Also on 1994 A steeple was purchased for the church. Even with all the work that went into the church building the sanctuary could not be enlarged to hold more people.

In 1996 the need for a bigger church building was apparent. The congregation voted to start a building fund to raise money for buying land and building a new church. A building committee was appointed to search for the best location to buy the land. Those appointed were Clifton Haga, Tommy James, Gilmer Hyatt, Rodger Blevins, Butch Pickett, Allen Goodson, Darrell Leonard and Wiley Roop. Through Prayer and the dedication of the men appointed to do this job we were able to purchase the old Vaughn School building in the spring of 1998. Due to vandalism and neglect the building was in need of extensive repairs and remodeling. Again many church members gave their time and talents to get this work done. The first service was held in the new building on the last Sunday morning in December 1998. There continues to be work done to improve the building. The building is now air conditioned. New windows have replaced the old, non-energy efficient windows of the school. The steeple has been moved from the old building to the new. In 2005-2006 we have remodeled the sanctuary once again adding drop ceiling, new seats, also covering the old tile walls with new sheetrock, and new carpet.

In 2006 we moved the sound room downstairs and added a video room upstairs in the sanctuary. We have added new projection screen for on screen bible and hymns. Needless to say God has blessed us beyond measure. We have been able to do all this and are still debt free. God still is blessing our church are we are moving forward.

In a span of 50 years this church has had 5 pastors. Jessie Roop from 1950-1958, Bennet Roamans 1959-1960, Clay Hamm 1960-1969, Fred Rich 1970-1971, Jessie Roop returned to pastor the church in 1972 and remained until his retirement in 1990. On July 1, 1990 the church voted on and approved Benny Haga as pastor. He was ordained on July 22, 1990 and remains as pastor today.
